This web page visualize the temperature statistics from Valentia Observatory (Ireland) on hourly, daily, monthly and yearly basis. The dataset is based on hourly and daily observations from 1944 to today.
Description of the Valentia Observatory Meteorological Station:
Valentia Observatory is part of Met Éireann, the Irish Meteorological Service. It is located one kilometre west of the town of Cahirciveen, on the estuary of the Feartha river. The main Observatory building was called Westwood House and was built, in 1866, by a Captain Needham, the local agent for Trinity College, Dublin, which had major land holdings in the area. The manual weather station at Valentia was officially closed on 1 April 2012 and was replaced by an Automatic Weather Station at the same location from 2 April 2012.
Dataset is updated on a monthly basis.
Variance of Mean Calculation Methods
This dataset has hourly observation data which allows the true daily mean to be calculated (sum of all hourly values / 24). The official temperature statistics use the max value + min value / 2. The visualization below shows daily mean values calculated using both methods.
Temperature
(T-1) Temperature Statistics per Month
(T-2) Daily Temperature Statistics per Year – Current year vs Climate Normal
(T-3) Monthly Temperature Statistics
(T-4) Yearly Temperature Statistics
(T-5) Yearly Temperature Statistics – both calculation methods compared
(T-6) Yearly Temperature Statistics – variance between methods (24 hr daily vs min+max/2)
(T-7) Monthly Values (Table)
(T-8) Daily values and calculation variance (24h vs min-max daily mean) (Table)
(T-9) Houly observation values and calculation of arithmetic averages (Table)
(T-10) Daily Temperature Statistics per Year (all values)
